In 2018, it was announced that Elvis Presley was to be posthumously awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom 41 years after his death.

At the time it was thought that President Donald J. Trump was the man responsible for the honour, and while the final choice would indeed of made by Trump, EER have discovered
an open letter addressed to the 45th President of the United States a year prior to the presentation shows that it was British fans who may well have triggered the idea in Trumps

April 8th 2017, The Official Elvis Presley Fan Club of Great Britain, sent an open letter to Donald Trump regarding the idea of posthumously presenting the medal to Elvis which was
of course, long over due.

Not only was a letter sent from the fan club, but the idea was sent to every member of the UK Fan Club and encourage their members to do the same.

And so the task to get Elvis Presley shown the national respect and honour he rightly deserved was underway. Now it's no secret that Donald Trump is partial to the odd compliment,
and it appears that Todd Slaughter of the OEPFC of GB had taken notice of how to get the best attention and interest from Trump by cleverly tweaking Trumps well recognised ego
by indicating that he may well have been Knighted by Her Majesty The Queen and be known as SIR Donald Trump... If he was actually British of course.

Here is that letter from the Official Elvis Presley Fan Club of Great Britain to President Trump

April 08, 2017

Dear Mr President:
This year I have been President of the Official Elvis Presley Fan Club of Great Britain for 50 years! As a fan club we have collectively achieved some remarkable successes, as well
as empowering 100,000s of UK fans to visit Graceland and beyond, and 2017 being the 40th anniversary of Presley’s death we will have the largest international affinity group in

Sir Paul McCartney, Sir Mick Jagger, Sir Elton John, Sir Bob Geldof, Sir Rod Stewart, Sir Van Morrison Sir Ray Davies, Sir Tim Rice, Sir Cliff Richard, Sir Tom Jones and dozens of
other British entertainers possibly not known to you have all been influenced by the music of Elvis Presley, and have received Knighthoods by HM Queen Elizabeth II.

Female singers such as Dame Vera Lynn, Dame Shirley Bassey, and Dame Julie Andrews are awarded Damehoods and such awards are gifted for both their services to
entertainment and charitable acts.

Politicians too receive awards, the most notable being Sir Winston Churchill, and it goes without saying that if you were a Brit, then at the end of your tenure you could possibly have
been knighted and thereafter known as Sir Donald Trump.

As it is in your power to bestow awards to your fellow Americans, this year Presley should be top of your list. Elvis has sold more recordings than any other world-wide performer –
over the past year in the UK alone he has sold almost two million albums - , and his global outreach has delivered phenomenal benefits both commercial and cultural to your nation.

Internationally he has been and still is your country’s most famous American, and even in death his home is a major international tourist attraction, second only (we are told) to your
White House.

What isn’t generally appreciated is that more than any other entertainer Elvis Presley unknowingly encouraged young people across the world to learn the English language, as they
painstakingly translated his song lyrics and his movie scripts.

Your country’s National Medal of Arts wasn’t established until 1983, six years after Elvis died, but I would humbly request that Elvis Presley posthumously receives an award this
year. It would be an honour that would be celebrated by his fans not only in the USA, but around the world.

Most respectfully,

So there we have it! A huge thank you and a pat on the back to Todd Slaughter and every member of the OEPFC of GB around the World who took the time to join forces with Todd
in sending your letters to Trump and making him aware of just how important Elvis Presley was / IS to so many people and also, how important Elvis is in the history of the United
States of America.
