|ELVIS HITS MORE THAN 2.8 BILLION YOUTUBE HITS
August 17, 2017 - Forbes / Elvis Express Radio
|It's been 40 years since Elvis Presley’s death and new figures reveal the King of Rock ‘n’ Roll has now racked up more than 2.8 billion combined views across YouTube. In the
YouTube list of the top 200 artists of all time on YouTube, he is more popular than Kanye West, Fall Out Boy, Lana Del Rey, and Whitney Houston.
Presley has averaged more than 4.4 million views a day over the past week, according to the statistics, released by YouTube Music just in advance of the August 16 anniversary.
Presley was fourth last year in the Forbes List of Top-Earning Dead Celebrities after his enterprises made $27 million. To date, he has sold more than a billion records worldwide.
Last year, Elvis saw a view spike of 74 percent on his birthday in January and 44 percent on the anniversary of his passing, with both figures compared to his daily average for 2016.
The annual Elvis Week sees his earnings surge, especially in Memphis, with his Graceland home and other sites receiving income significantly more than his musical earnings.
Still, other times of year also see the Elvis musical machine gearing up high revenues. Presley is also known for his festive hits, and views are especially high on Christmas Eve, with
tracks like “Here Comes Santa Claus” (1.5 million), “Silver Bells” (482,000) and “Can’t Help Falling in Love” (278,000 views) combining with other classics to yield 7.9 million views.
The statistics also show Presley’s international reach. A day after it emerged his compilation The 50 Greatest Hits is heading for the top of the charts in countries outside the U.S.,
it is now confirmed that Elvis has reached more than 1 million YouTube views in 100 different countries.
Viewing figures show that the cities where he is most popular all fall outside of the U.S. and English speaking world. The top city is Santiago, Chile, with the second place being Sao
Paolo, Brazil and Mexico City, Mexico is the third biggest Elvis fan zone, according to the location of YouTube clicks.
