TUPELO – All of the King of Rock ’n’ Roll’s men, women and children will be welcome at his house on Saturday.

The Elvis Presley Birthplace and Museum’s Fan Appreciation Day will start at 10:45 a.m.

“I’d say we’ve been doing something like this for 30 years or more,” said Dick Guyton, executive director of the Elvis Presley Memorial Foundation. “He’s been dead 39 years this

Soon after Elvis died on Aug. 16, 1977, the front porch of the two-room shotgun house at the birthplace was covered with flowers.

“They don’t bring flowers any more,” Guyton said, “but they still come as often as they can.”

Official Elvis Week activities in Memphis don’t begin until Sunday. Guyton said Fan Appreciation Day was scheduled to catch early arrivals who might want to stop in Tupelo on their
way to Memphis.

“I suspect we’ll have 300 to 400 people here throughout the day,” said Guyton, adding it’ll be a mixture of tourists and area residents.

The ticket price will be reduced to $10 on Saturday. The Masters Quartet will perform in the theater, followed by tribute artist Michael Chambliss.

“We hope at the end of his performance we can talk the Masters to come back out, so Michael and the quartet can do some things together,” Guyton said.

Hot-dogs, hamburgers, chips and drinks will be for sale for lunch. Everybody’s welcome to drop by and celebrate the life and legacy of Tupelo’s favorite son.

“Really, we do have a lot of people who are just driving by. They don’t realize we are doing fan day. Some of them stop by, too,” Guyton said. “The more the merrier.”
