ELVIS HAS LEFT THE WESTGATE
NOW & FOREVER....NO MORE!
February 28, 2016 (10am UK Time) - Tony Stuchbury EERs News Hound / Elvis Express Radio
Elvis has left the Building....with absolutely no word or warning The Westgate in Las Vegas has shut down their "Permanent" Elvis exhibit with immediate effect.
It opened on April 23, 2015, "Elvis: The Exhibition," was hyped up as the FIRST PERMANENT Elvis exhibit outside of Graceland, opened at the same property (now known as the
Westgate) that Elvis performed in when it was known as the International Hotel and later, the Hilton Hotel where Elvis performed from 1969 until 1976.
After the massive success of the 'Elvis at the O2' exhibition in London, it's hard to understand how a permanent exhibition in Las Vegas could ever fail? But fail it has, this
"Permanent" exhibit didn't even manage to last one year. Actually it lasted just a couple of days over 10 months. Compare that to Elvis at the O2 which opened on December 12th
2014 and would run for 9 months.
However, due to the enormous public demand to attend the exhibit, the O2 were successful in extending the deal with EPE meaning "Elvis at the O2" was extended until January
10th, 2016. When the O2 exhibit closed, there was still enough interest to keep the exhibit running for another 6 months at least. But much of the items were at the O2 wound up on
display at the Westgate.
But back to the sudden closure of everything Elvis at the Westgate?
With no word on the Official EPE website or the Westgate site, our Newshound, Tony gave the hotel a call and there the staff member confirmed that the Elvis exhibit is CLOSED
and NO LONGER RUNNING!
Things had been looking bad for a while, back in January, Tony was over in Vegas and went to the Westgate on 3 occasions the place was empty, only on the 3rd trip did he see 3
people (sadly the stereotypical type - see pictures below) dressed in casual t-shirts, 3/4 length shorts and Elvis concert style belts (as you do????).
And so we're left to wonder what the heck has gone on......until we are deemed worthy of being informed!
So much for ELVIS IS BACK IN THE BUILDING - PERMANENTLY!
