|A NEW STAR IN VEGAS
February 02, 2016 Viva Las Vegas Elvis Presley Fan Club / Elvis Express Radio
The Viva Las Vegas! Elvis Presley Fan Club is happy and proud to announce the installation of the new star for Elvis Presley in the Las Vegas Walk of Stars. It is located in the
sidewalk at the Paris Las Vegas Hotel and Casino, in front of the Mon Ami Gabi restaurant. Elvis' star was installed February 2, 2016 and is located near Englebert Humperdinck,
initiating a new line of future stars. Since 2004, the walk project has honored people of prominence with placements along Las Vegas Boulevard, in the four mile stretch known as
the fabulous "Strip."
Elvis Presley was originally inducted into the Las Vegas Walk of Stars in September 2008, sponsored by the Viva Las Vegas Club. The fund requirement (currently $20,000) was
raised by the club; donations came from fans worldwide. After an unveiling ceremony inside the Riviera, the star was installed in front of the hotel where it remained until May 2015
when the Riviera closed. All of the stars in front were removed by request of the new building owner, the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority.
The 7-year-old Elvis star was determined to not be in suitable condition to be re-installed. It was given to the club and some time later, the club decided to donate the star to the
Neon Museum. The museum staff were thrilled to accept it and they look forward to including the star in an upcoming Riviera exhibit.
For the new star, the Las Vegas Walk of Stars coordinated arrangements with the Viva Las Vegas Club. The walk organization funded the replacement and installation; the club
paid for the survey fee. The star is made of solid red granite, measures 3 feet square, is 2 inches thick, and weighs over 600 lbs. All donor names are on a list in the memory
packet installed underneath the star. The Viva Las Vegas Club thanks its donors, the Las Vegas Walk of Stars, the Paris Las Vegas hotel, and the stone masons at the MakeOver
Group for the new installation of Elvis Presley into the Las Vegas Walk of Stars.
