The Downtown Tupelo Main Street Association said significant progress will be made on the Elvis Presley Birthplace Trail in the coming weeks.

As part of the 18-month, $11.5 million project, downtown Tupelo will connect to the Elvis Birthplace and Museum.

The Northeast Mississippi Daily Journal reports the work downtown includes:
• Remove concrete

• Remove street light poles

• Install electric conduit and boxes

• Dig tree pits

• Form and pour seat wall footings

• Lay brick for seat walls

• Set street light poles and junction boxes

• Form and pour sidewalks and paver footing

• Set electrical outlets

• Place topsoil

• Plant trees and other plants and place mulch

• Set seat walls

To the businesses and citizens concerned about the work schedule, DMTSA executive director Debbie Brangenberg said MDOT does not allow work on Sundays.

She also said contractors are well ahead of schedule.

The Elvis Birthplace Trail is scheduled to be completed by Spring 2016.
